Hi I have had the above mobo for a while and decided to upgrade CPU so got an I5 3570k I installed it and it wouldn`t boot realising that it must need a bios update for this ivybridge. I went on to put old CPU back in and got new bios went to flash it the PC restarted and it seemed to be flashing the mobo with a progress bar displayed however I walked away from the pc and then looked back and saw a small messaged displayed in a grey box but as I came back to the pc to read it, the pc restarted.

Ever since then the pc now powers on and the fans come on for approximately 2 seconds and then stop and this keeps repeating until either I hold the power button down or switch off the PSU or plug.

I have tried to clear bios with the jumper and also removed the battery for ten minutes and this has not helped. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I think there's a dual BIOS on that board? Not sure on how to recover it

Does and bios blue led light blink?

Am not sure about Dual bios how would I find out? The manual perhaps? The blue led1 on the mobo itself blinks once as the fans start but that is the only one that does blink.

There may be a switch on the board itself to change to the secondary BIOS, also maybe a BIOS recovery disc which came with the older boards but seeing as yours is newer it probably does have dual BIOS - if you just check the MSI website it should have details on the spec.

Just seen in the manual about a Dual BIOS LED however in brackets it states (P67A-GD65) so I think it is not a feature on my mobo. Cannot see it on the mobo were the diagram in the manual displays it also. I have a disk which says drivers and utilities on it but if I can`t get into bios I won`t be able to use it will I?

did you use the MSI forums tool for the flash? (it back's up the BIOS as it flashes, in case of error)

edit, out of interest, have you tried popping in your new CPU since the flash?, the newer BIOS's are not compatible with sandybridge, so the flash may well have been successful

Not sure I downloaded from the download section on the mobo cpu specification page. It was the latest version. A zip file copied to usb drive and then I unzipped and ran an exe file and it just restarted the pc and attempted the bios flash.
I have tried my new CPU but it didn`t work.

you flashed from windows?

edit: the MSI flashing tool is notorious for bricking boards, and that looks like whats happened with yours, in that case, your best bet would be to pick up a replacement BIOS chip from the bay and swap it out.

think they are £10-£15 though iirc

No started the exe file in windows and then it restarted and began flashing before windows starts dunno if thats classed as dos or something.

it's never a good idea to flash from windows imo, a quick look on the MSI boards show's how many problems they've had with that BIOS software (M-Flash is not much better).

the MSI BIOS forum tool is the safest way to do it.

Ok then I have just searched on the bay and found a couple but are they difficult to replace is soldering involved? I`ve never swapped bios chips before.

nah no soldering involved, if you can get your hands on a pair of rubber tipped tweezers you'd be good to go, have a look on youtube for an instructional.

edit: not your board, but it'll give you a rough idea

That bios chip is soldered isn't it?

the MSI forum says no, but it does look like it from the image.

edit: the ebay listing does say "chip to be soldered on board"

imo that would be pretty much impossible to solder (unless your an expert) the chip is about 2mm square
