Hi I was wondering if someone could help as I am at my wits end trying to get this to work

I purchased a RX580 and no matter what I do I cannot get it to display an image via HDMI - The card is working as the white led is on but no image appears

I know some people have mentioned the motherboard has to be UEFI for it to work but I'm pretty sure this board is ( bios is colourful and is browsable using a mouse)

I have no drivers pre-installed for a graphics card but I'm sure this isn't normally an issue as the image is normally displayed and later the drivers can be downloaded. ( I have no drivers for my current 7950 I am upgrading from)

I also cannot see any options in the bios regarding legacy or uefi but I am sure it supports both.

Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong or is it that this motherboard is simply too old? I also flashed the bios to version 4.3 but still no image is displayed. I would be grateful if anyone could help me. Thanks in advance

I am running it on windows 10 64 bit with an i5 2500k and the power supply is more then capable ( seasonic) and below is the drivers I downloaded and flashed from an usb stick

Version
4.3

Release Date
2013-01-09

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

If you have the latest bios already then the motherboard could just too be old to be compatible (this does happen from time to time). Did you allow the flashing process to complete fully because I see there is a notice on your motherboards support page stating:-

System will restart several times to update ME firmware after updated system BIOS. Please DO NOT remove the USB pen drive until ME update sucessfully.

Other things to try are:-
Is the card fully seated in the pci-e slot? Try reseating it.
Have you tried a different pci-e slot to rule out a faulty slot?
Have you plugged the required power cables into the gpu?
Have you got a different HDMI cable that you can try to rule out a faulty cable?
What model and wattage is your Seasonic psu? The RX580 pulls around a extra 40-50w more than a 7950.

I am thinking it's more likely to be a motherboard/gpu incompatibility which either forces a cpu/motherboard/memory upgrade or you go back to the 7950.

Thanks your suggestions sound bang on. It restarted only once and then booted straight into windows for me to login. I checked the firmware later and it was 4.3 but it didn't restart several times so I may flash again to see if anything else happens.
Yes power supply should be okay and was plugged in firmly, will check power rating again tonight.
Tried different cables also
Really annoying as this board was uiefi bios. Could you suggest and budget cpu and motherboard (maybe possibly 100 for cpu and 70 region for motherboard ) what's the best bang for the buck these days Is it the ryzen. Would be grateful if could suggest a good cpu as haven't looked at them since my i5 2500!

The problem with a new cpu and motherboard is that you will need new memory as well because all platforms use DDR4 these days. I would normally say wait because AMD are launching new cpu's and boards in the middle of the year but as your new gpu doesn't like your motherboard there isn't a lot of choice.

This is the cheapest way to get onto AMD's Ryzen platform and while the 1200 is a ok cpu it is the bottom of the pile. You could upgrade to one of AMD's new cpu's when they launch later in the year as all current motherboards will take any new AMD AM4 cpu's until 2020.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £231.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Ideally though most would go with a much better cpu such as the 2600 (out of stock here at the moment) and 16Gb of DDR4 but it massively increases the cost.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £361.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Prices will change later when the current offers end and new ones begin. I believe the 16Gb kit of memory is being reduced to £99.99 for a week.

Thanks so much mate that looks like a good build at a good price, you know your stuff! As you advised I would rather go for the 2600 as it will in the long run save me money from having to upgrade.

have an offer at the moment for this build what do you think? It has the 2600 and a 580 graphics

You had better remove the link and mention of that site as competitor links are not allowed on here.

The motherboard should be changed to one of the B450 choices and the memory changed to 2x 8Gb 3000mhz (don't cripple Ryzen with slow memory). That adds around £87 to the pc plus there is only a 240Gb SSD which we would normally back up with a 1tb hdd to put games on so if you don't have one you can add to the system that's something else to add on. You do get a free game with the cpu and two more with the gpu so you could sell them on to recoup some of the cost if you are not interested in those games. I am a bit concerned at the psu as they state a 500w Coolermaster Bronze rated unit is fitted. They don't say which one it is and I checked the psu's that they sell and they don't sell any 500w Coolermaster psu's so I would be worried that it is one of Coolermasters awful budget units. You already have a RX580 though so replacing your cpu/motherboard/memory would be my choice.

Gibbo (OCUK shop staff) is as good as his word and the price of that Team Group Vulcan 16Gb 3000mhz has indeed driopped to £99.99 so that 2600 bundle I suggested is down to £351.47 inc delivery now. The 2600 is still out of stock though.

Thanks for the info didn't realize. Amended now
Okay thanks for having such a thorough look at the build but I think your suggested build is better as I can put a motherboard and psu that's better and memory . Plus making your own pc feels so much better!
Can you recommend me a good case please I heard the corsair with tempered glass on the side are okay or possibly go a small pc case route (the ones that look like media centres)

Cases are more a personal thing really so I don't pick cases for other people. A case that I might like (one with none of that RGB rubbish for a start!!) you may hate so how about I suggest some brands/models and you draw up a shortlist and we'll go through them together? A case is probably going to last you much longer than the bits you put inside of it so pick a good one straight off the bat. You should be looking at a good layout, if the case doesn't have a compartment just for the psu then a decent amount of space behind the motherboard tray is essential for cable management. Then you need to get cool air into the case and hot air out so fan placement is another thing to consider. It also has to look good as well, especially if it's going on top of a desk staring at you all of the time.

As well as Corsair, Phanteks, Fractal Design and NZXT are well regarded on here. You don't have to spend a fortune to get a case with a tempered glass window either. Just £45 gets you the Kolink Stronghold which is a nice looking and capable case and a lot of case for the money. While I wouldn't touch one of their psu's with someone elses bargepole they do make some fine cases. The Phanteks P400 Glass are good looking cases and come in several colours. There is also the Phanteks Pro and Pro M with a glass side panel. I really rate Phanteks cases as you get a lot for the money and have features that some cases twice their price don't have. There are so many I could be here all night. You could have a look in the project logs section of the forums to see what cases people are using and what they have achieved plus we have Case Central as well which has loads of good tips and advice. Anyway, have a read of the forums, have a look at the cases and draw up a shortlist of however many cases you want (I would suggest up to 5) and then if you like we can pick through them and see what you have come up with?

Push the 2600x if you can. Not sure if your running K version of your i5, but single core performance would still favour intel . 2600x pushed good single/dual core speed without doing any work for it, and is not to much more expensive currently :)

As mentioned above , cases are a mine field.

Love jonsbo cases personally and phanteks cheaper Neo cases

Hi mate thanks a lot I actually really like the kolink case you suggested It's practical and the price is really good Your a star. If I see any others on the forums you suggested I will come back to you before deciding as your a fountain of knowledge!
Also I wanted to ask do you think it would be worth waiting for the new amd processors that are coming in a few months and have been announced ? I normally don't do that kind of thing as I know you would end up waiting forever for the next best thing but since they are not far away what do you suggest and is the performance supposed to be multitudes better ?
I still have the option of returning the graphics but if you suggest not waiting I will most likely go for the build you suggested thanks

That's what the plan was and yes it's a k version highly over clock able but the issue is my new graphics card for some reason won't display an image on it. If you ready my first post you will see the issues I have had . Not sure why as it supply's uefi bios but nevertheless no image

Still could be a faulty card , tried it in another system ?

Wasn't a 2nd hand card? (With a memory strapped bios) if the memory straps are pushed to hard the gpu gpu won't boot.
Have you set the bios option to detect from pcie 1st,

Did it work once and then the next restart failed?

It's vega that has the problem with needing a uefi bios, polaris isn't affected by this as it has both legacy and uefi incorporated in the firmware.

I have a vega on a z68 and it needed uefi bios to work.
