Does anyone know the fsb limit of this board? i have got the board up to 9x412 = 3.7ghz whats the worst that can happen if my temps stay in the low 60s under load and i push it further! will i blow capacitors or the vrm's? or does it just refuse to boot? also on a 1:1 ratio with my memory means it's 24mghz above factory is this safe or do i keep the mghz under the stated 800?

MSI P6N PLATINUM
E6850 3.0ghz
2x 8800gts
4x1gb pny 800 ddr2
Artic freezer pro 7
Corsair TX750w
Antec 1200

I reckon low 60's under full load is okay. Not sure I would go much higher than that.
3.7Ghz on a E6850 sounds like a good clock - why not leave it as is?
Your memory should be fine as is - if you're going higher you may need to up the vdimm and/or slacken the timings.

what would happen if it was pushed further for a benchmark and then returned to 3.7. would anything blow on it?

Personaly keep temps below 70c full load, if you go to far you proberly wont boot or get a BSOD whilst loading windows.

I doubt anything will blow unless you put a silly voltage through a component.

ok cool !!!! what about the memory? is it safe to take it past factory 800mghz? and if so by how much?

What are the temps on the mobo like? Point a fan at your NB

Memory frequency won't damage your RAM, the voltage you push through it to achieve that speed will however. If it's a high CPU clock for a CPU bench you're after, drop the RAM timings way back and bump the voltage slightly. This should let you increase the FSB.

nb temp is showing 45c when running orthos but rises to 52-54c when playing games does this sound okay?

the system temp is the one that heats up to 50ish when playing games... the system temp when running cpu and also blend does not go above 45c...

yup!!! the system was reading 56c and 57c when i was playing a game there! the cores were reading 51c max! is this normal

CPU temps look fine what software are you using to check temps.

Motherboard temps don't look to bad :)

CPU fine, dont go over 70c and your a happy man. Dual core at that is good.

NB can give instability when getting too hot, a fan over the nb will work wonders if thats an issue

You wont blow anything by going too far on safe voltages - find these out via google :)

At worst it wont boot if you take it too far, and if it does boot you will soon know when you meet you blue friend.

To be honest though you sound quite new to overclocking, read the stickies at the top of this forum, and read other posts on google, find info out on the mobo as much as possible. then find out info on the cpu (regardless of mobo) this will give you an idea of how you are doing

yeah you are dead right man....i am new to this and the explaining to the wife that my newish pc has fried does not sound good to me man...thats why i am checking out all of the above but thanks for the thread!

Here's a nice simple rule m8. Dont go above 1.55 volts on any of your voltages. (well except ram) and you should be ok... Then you only have to keep an eye on temps, but as said above the BSOD or failure to post is more likely to happen before a system failure. Also if you do eventually find your max clock at reasonably high volts/temps. Be satisfied and then knock it back a few hundred mhz and knock off a little voltage for every day use. Or enable speedstep! Thats what i do. That way mine drops to 3.2ghz and stock volts when the extra power's not needed.

thnx man much appreciated for the reply..got my 1st BSOD this morning at 3.9ghz but managed to complete 3dmark 06 before it happened and got my highest score...15134 with 2x 8800 gts 320mb... but this board runs in 8x lane sli... i thought it was a not bad score !!! obviously there is immense scores out there but i am happy with that...
clocked back to 3.6 and i will run that 24/7 i think...
