Yo.

Bought my R7950 a little while ago, lovely card.

However, after a while my card maxes out at around 75 degrees, and around 70 the fan is pretty loud. Since I'm not happy with the card at 75, would it be advisable to repaste to get the temps down a bit?

Thanks.

75c is normal. I've had cards go 85c to 90c.

I'm /used/ to below 70.

It's mainly noise if I'm brutally honest. The card will ramp up to 60% fan and that's pretty damned loud. 55 or below is ideal, which it'll do when it's at 70.

I've owned that same card 3 times. Thats right 3 faulty cards. It made me go green. That cooler is very loud. I do my fan profile like to like. 30c to 30%, 50c to 50%. That card was loud though

Damn, that's unfortunate. Fine so far, first card. Only the loudness under load.

My 560Ti was awful, that put me off green. Plus the masses of people complaining at me for considering a 670 over a 7950.

My friend recently bought a 780, completely ****ed, bought another one, also ****ed.

Not sure why he even bothered, he's playing @ 1080p where a 770 will do fine.

How loud?

100% fan speeds loud?? try to set your fans to 100% and check if it is that... because I have 2 of this cards in crossfire and with the default fan profile the top card reachs 74C and the bottom one 70C, with my custom fan profile the top one reachs 70C and the 2nd bottom one 67C.

Also this is running the GPU at 1100mhz and the Memory at 1500mhz

And they are nowhere near as loud as my old reference 1x7970

Room temperature around 28 to 30C (yeah really hot :( )

Beat ya to that on the 100% thing haha. I was worried it had the issue with the diode. No, it's running at around 60% at peak (when it's around 75 degrees).

I'm running at stock clocks as well and I get to 75 degrees.

/Could/ be an airflow issue I will check again. Kinda crazy considering I have 5 fans working on the case. Two on top pushing out, one on front pushing in at the bottom (this /could/ be an issue because hard drives are in the way), one on the side pulling in and one on the back pulling in.

Ambient temps... Varies on the time of day. Not really sure.

Mine peaks at around 70 degrees after a few runs of Heaven or Valley. Never had any temperature problems while gaming, where it normally sits below 60.

The fans are noisy which is the only thing I don't like about the card. Under 50% fan speed is barely audible but over 60% is unbearable.

Huh, looks like I do have a rather hot running card then. Now 75 isn't worryingly hot, but it's hotter than I'd like it.

Do you think a repaste could potentially help my problem?

Also, why the hell are there 3 deleted posts in here..?

maybe it would help.. but I think it would void the warranty.

probably people posting stupid things.

Mmm so other solutions first. It's just kind of irritating. Especially when I know other people have the same card and can get much lower temps and less noise.

Very true up there about the 50/60% statement.

Sorry just to be sure do you have the Reference model with one middle fan? or TFIII?

Because I have 2 MSI TFIII 7950, before that I used to have 2 HIS reference ones.

the reference ones used to work much hotter like 86C the top one and 80C the bottom one and yes they were louder than the TFIII.

No, I do believe I have the MSI Twin Frozr III too. Clocked at 960 core. This is the 2nd revision card I think.

TFIII is pretty much silent at idle and is when is reasonable when at 50% fan but really makes a racket once it hits 60% (around 75 degrees).

You should just have stayed away from MSI and gone something like sapphire instead. The sapphire 7950 non reference are awwsome for both noise and cooling..

1100mhz core, 1450mem gets it to around 71 degrees (from 810mhz core and 1250mhz mem) @1100vddc. Granted i have an open bench system but im sitting next to it and i cant hear the fans at all if i have just a Little bit of sound going and im usually picky about these things.

Raz Just did a quick test. MLL benchmark. I have CF 1x8&6 pin (bottom)6&6pin(top)
Room temp 24.7c
Max temp 62c
Fan speed 45% max
VRM temp 58c max
GPU load 76% max
Dammed quiet. When I had my VXD with The MSI it was loud. Now I know.

1st time reading from gpu-z log file
Total Frames: 8216, Total Time: 170.7552 sec
Average Framerate: 48.15
Max. Framerate: 108.45 (Frame: 4439)
Min. Framerate: 9.94 (Frame: 910)

Hope this helps...

well I have the MSI ones.. 1100/1500... 70C on the top card, 66 on the bottom one, with my case closed and 29C room temp.
benching I can go to 1180/1700

I have the boost edition and it was similar temps to yours. The default voltage of 1.25 is way too much for stock 960. I lowered it to 1.125 and temps topped at 65 with custom fan profile at 55%
