My friend bought a 1070s from another store about 18 months ago.
He sent it back a few weeks ago to the store, and they agreed it was faulty and offered him 65% of a refund.
He has tried MSI dirtectly on my advice, and they have agreed via the other store to do an RMA. Caveat of being if they cannot fix it or get a direct replacement, he can pay the difference to upgrade!

How quick are MSI with the RMA process, do they keep in touch via it?
Thanks

In these times, with Covid and all that (post/deliveries being stretched etc), your friend would realistically be expecting a 3 week turnaround at least. A week to arrive, a week for them to process and another week for a replacement/upgrade or the card getting fixed to be back with your friend.

Had to RMA an old 7 series with them a couple years back and they just sent me out a 970gtx in replacement (no upgrade charge). Took at least 2 weeks then if I remember rightly.

If you send to MSI it will be to the Netherlands, and you have to use Special Delivery to get it tracked. Years ago it cost me £18 to send a 6970 Lightning. They did replace it.

However. More recently (although it was still ages ago) I bought a MSI Big Bang Xpower II. A very expensive motherboard for Sandybridge E. It blew up 11 months in. I contacted the store I bought it from (not OCUK) and they said they had nothing to replace it with and suggested MSI. I contacted MSI who really wanted nothing to do with it and were playing tennis trying to get me to send it back to the place I bought it from. However, I knew that they had nothing to replace it with so I sent it to MSI who reluctantly agreed.

I waited a month, then started to pester them. They told me they had nothing to replace it with. So I asked what I was supposed to do with my £900 CPU and to send me another X79 board. They didn't have any of those either. So in the end after numerous pathetic offers (I paid £350 for the board) they sent me a GTX 970 which I sold.

So that is my experience. One positive, one terrible. However, in fairness it's not MSI's problem. The law states you deal with your retailer (EU law, that could change) but tbh? I am sure companies don't want to be hanging onto stock. Now I don't buy MSI any more. I don't like companies who sell up every last product they have leaving nothing in stock at the RMA centre to replace it with. Thankfully I got a RIVE before the prices on them went bonkers, but it was used.
