Specs first.

Ryzen 2600X
MSI Gaming Plus Max B450
16GB Corsair LPX 3200
Sapphire RX570 8gb Nitro
Seasonic GC Core 500w 80 Gold +

New build but having issues from the off.

It struggles to post and it will randomly die with the CPU debug led on.

Sometimes it gets to windows and works happily for a time, then will die with the CPU led. Then it won't restart and I have to force it off or hit the reset button until it posts again.

I've reseated everything, tried different coolers but theres just no rhyme or reason to the crashes.

I've even managed to run Prime95 stress tests for a few iterations and it was fine. Then it will fail while browsing but always with the cpu led.

I've updated bios, I've rolled bios back to much older versions, no change. So frustrating.

I see lots of other folk have had similar issues with MSI mobos.

Am I looking at an RMA on the mobo/cpu or is there something else I should look at maybe before I go down that road.

Ram in the correct slots ? test 1 stick at a time, slot 2 must be used first, then 4, then 1 and 3, so if you are only using 2 sticks then they must be in 2 & 4.

Also if you have it enabled, disable XMP, if that fixes the problem, then you know its ram related, I really dont rate that Corsair LPX stuff, all the problems seem to be related to those kits of ram, if budget was an issue, id of personally gone for some HyperX kit of some sort.

Dont use the Game boost function at all.

Just tried it out of the case, still doing it. Somethings not happy with it, never had this much trouble from a build before.

It just makes no sense. Oh well, hopefully I can send them back.

Are x570 boards any better for reliability/compatibility with Ryzen. Seems B450s are a bit of a lottery with R5's and 7's

Hi, there's more to try before rma,

Reset bios to stock settings?
Chipset drivers update?
Run with 1 stick of ram
Psu, is 500w enough, is it still good?
Have you reseated cpu cooler, are your temps
OK in general?
What power mode is Windows running at?

Wouldn't be the first Ryzen CPU with issues. Slightly higher percentage of dodgy ones and replacements required versus Intel. Probably due to the fact they are "overclocked" to near the limit already.

It also wouldn't be the first time an MSI B450 board has correctly identified a dodgy CPU with the CPU error led. Remember two pretty long threads here with 2600X that turned out to be solved by replacing CPU (one of the cases was also confirmed by the re-seller when RMA'd). That said, there are still bad boards that need replacing as well of course. And RAM. But honestly, if the board is telling you CPU, then based on information I've come across (mentioned above), give it the benefit of the doubt and RMA the CPU first.

Interestingly in one of the cases the 2600X would only work properly with Game Boost enabled. It seemed to have provided it with the extra voltage that weak CPU needed, at idle and at load, to mask the underlying issue.

Bios, cleared cmos and tried, no dice.
Chipset drivers not relevant when it fails to post I'd have thought but latest from MSI anyway.
Tried 1 stick, then the other, no dice.
PSU is new, with minimal load watt checker says 268 watts. I'd have thought it's enough really.
Tried 2 different coolers, temps fine with both and I watched it run up to 85 degrees running prime 95 and was ok.
No idea on the win power mode but again, fails to post correctly so not likely to be that I'd have thought.

Haven't tried gameboost...or did I...I might have actually because it bumps it up to 4.2 I think. Yes I'm sure I tried that and still the same.
