Hi guys,

I was going to go for the MSI z97 gaming 5 Mobo until I heard that MSI have a bad rep for after-sales support. This is my first gaming rig, which will be cost around £950 (excluding peripherals), so I am a bit nervous to say the least.

Firstly, what do you guys think about warranty and support issue with MSI and would going for the Gigabyte z97x gaming 5 board be a better choice (do gigabyte have good after sales support). Since this is my first build, I'm looking to buy off a manufacture that has a good rep. Also I really don't want to spend more than £120 on my first Mobo.

Cheers :)

Gigabyte have the best support. They have a forum rep who is a regular. Their Gaming board have a 4 year warranty if you register them within 30 days or 3 years if you dont.

Gigabyte or Asus for me and of those two Gigabyte, by far, has the best support. Every MSI board I have owned in the past has failed for one reason or another.

Both of those boards are good in my experience of them. Ran MSI gaming 5 MSI in the office today for m.2 drive benching.

I have always run Gigabyte or Asus and never really had any issues. I can t see MSI being bad though as they are a well established company and just like any other maker, if you go looking for bad experiences you will find them.

long time gigabyte and asus user in the past. Took a gamble on the MSI this time round and it's been fantastic, really impressed with it and it looks amazing.

..one of the reasons why asking for peoples opinions/recommendations on forums is pointless.

Heh yeah - I've had the worst luck with Asus motherboards ever (their whole P5 line has been dire for me with multiple failues and prematurely degrading components) - which isn't really representative of their actual quality.

MSI have always been hit and miss for me, some great boards, some shoddy boards.

Gigabyte is my favorite but not without its issues, cold boot problems seem to plague them but if you get past that I've found them solid in every other way, sometimes a little slow to get the BIOS updates out that really make them shine though - if they were more proactive on that front and sorted the cold boot issues better there would be no reason to go with anyone else IMO.

I'm unsure what to pick, I really prefer the look of the MSI Gaming 7 board, but I also like the Gigabyte board. Is there anything which is better out of the two?

I just cannot see the point in the killer nic's. any delay in network traffic they claim to fix is going to happen outside of your LAN so the NIC is just not relevant. and if the NIC IS causing issues then how old is it! ISA BUS maybe?

nothing from PCI onwards is going to cause slow response times. And its only server cards that have any decent offloading as well.

as long as the mobo has a decent Intel based NIC you are guaranteed comparability and quality.

In terms of the memory I listed above, Would the MSI board I listed also work with that memory?

I'm just unsure of what memory will work or not as not many modules are listed in either sites.

Okay well I have had my heart set on the MSI Gaming 7, so have just ordered it. :)

Hopefully my RAM will be compatible, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be though. Can someone kindly advise me on this, as I don't want to get all worried about it lol.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I am wanting to buy a new motherboard, but have this Avexir RAM listed below:

I was wondering, would this memory be compatible with the Gigabyte Gaming 7 Board?
