MSI Warranty?

Just bought myself a 2nd hand 680 Lightning. The seller claims there's loads of warranty left. Is it transferrable like EVGA? Or will RMAs have to go through him?

He's including proof of purchase.

it's transferable, but unlike the original buyer (who gets 3 years from date of purchase), you only get 3 years from date of manufacture. there should be a manufacture date on your card somewhere to let you know how long you've got.

You can also RMA direct through MSI if you wish, as long as you have the cards S/N you should be good to go, though this does involve posting it to Holland.

Great, very happy with 24mths, I'd be unlikely to keep the card for longer than that anyway.

Now I'm hoping it's one of the initial batch of 5000 with unlocked voltage, although if not I'll just BIOS flash it. :)

Do you have a link / source for this please mate?

Im sure the cards I bought (7970 Lightnings) came with 3 years warranty and have also asked about the warranty being transferable - Ive looked on the MSI website, emailed them and where I bought my cards from and ive had no luck / reply :S

Cheers :D

lol sorry... i know it's not always easy to get in touch with msi but i'm afraid i just said that from memory. i remember googling this when i first bought my card. all i know is, you don't have to register your card immediately after purchase to use the warranty, and i know about the transferable warranty and how it works. don't remember where i read about it though!

FYI, this doesnt actually seem to be the case.

MSI will know when the card was manufactured by the serial number but the serial number on it's own won't give any indication of when it left the factory.
