So this is my latest project so far, I will be upgrading my netbook as soon as I can. I will be starting with the RAM then possibly hard drive later on, why not both right now? Put simply I really don't have a lot of money to play with, which is why this netbook is currently my main PC.

I have been told by a couple of sources including Crucial that the correct type of RAM for me to use would be 1GB of DDR2-5300, SODIMM type obviously. However that is a little vague because even if you use the right type of RAM, sometimes it still won't be as compatible as you'd like with the system that it is going into.

This will also be the first time I have ever opened up a portable PC and poked around inside, so I'm for some reason a little nervous. Feel like I'm in enemy territory so to speak, as I'm usually only ever working with ATX towers so this is quite a change in form factor.

As for the potential hard drive upgrade I was thinking 500GB should be adequate. Other than that I don't really know what I need, I think this netbook uses SATA but I'm not certain and if it does; which version of SATA?

So can anyone assist me in what brands/speeds/connection types, etc I should be looking for? Possibly some tips for the upgrade as well if anyone has any experience with Wind U100's. Thanks.

Have a dig around here and you will find a lot of useful information... http://insanelywind.com/forum/

As for upgrading the memory, it's really easy, the worst part is getting access to it...

When you speak of compatability, I wouldn't worry too much. I bought the cheapest stick I could find and it worked just fine.

Mm.. I was on that forum for a little while, it does have some really good information. Only problem is you have to wade through some junk in some of the threads to find what you want.

Thanks for the links.

Really? I've heard a lot of people suggesting to stay away from Corsair for example, but maybe they were just unlucky enough to buy dud sticks.. Interesting.

Also once I have the memory installed, bringing my total up to 2GB.. will I be able to allocate more to graphics? Currently 128MB is assigned, which is okay for most things but I do play games on this thing so a little more graphics memory would help.

Upgrade was a success, I now have 2GB in this baby. Woop! I used a stick of Corsair "Value Select" which set me back about £15 including delivery from Amazon.

Only downer is that I lost one of the nine screws, ah-well.. I doubt it'll fall apart from that!
