Hello

I am currently having a problem with my setup and I believe the fault is the motherboard. So here's the story, Last weekend I was playing a game on it and all of sudden the system shut off and at first I didnt think much of it because its happened before and I have successfully booted it back up, but this time was different. The system usually gets to the post screen within 5 secs of being powered on. This time the system didn't really do anything, it would power on but it wouldnt POST and there where no bios beeps. CPU and GPU fans would power on and blue LED's on the board would show but also 2 LED's on the gcard would power on and stay on which doesnt usually happen. The HDD also spins up and there is no picture output. I have tested another gcard in the system but to no effect and each memory has been taken out and tested on its own and again to no effect.

thanks

I wonder if your PSU is on the way out, need to check what the 2 leds on the GPU'S mean.

Is it possible to test another PSU in your system, also not sure if you have tried, do a CMOS reset.

Do you have one of those two character displays that tells you which part if the boot the PC is at?

Could be a power issue I suppose. Do you have access to a spare/alternate PSU to test?

Could be a number of things really. Mobo seems to be getting some power but nothing is being brought to life. Bios corruption, try a reset.

hey Op check you northbridge temps. i had this board and within seconds of it booting the nb would hit 77 then slowly climb up and then shut off. i know you cant boot now but me thinks its the board

Hey again

ive been looking at wot the Gcard light mean and found that they are labelled and mean-
D1601= Over temp protection enabled
D1602= EXT 12v Fault

so now im thinking possibly the PSU isnt givin everythin enough juice?

The PSU is enough for your system, but if you have a fault it may be coursing some problems.

I am having similar issues.

Had a xilience 750W PSU and Asus p5Q-E board.

PC suddenly shut down and didnt want to boot.
Replaced kettle lead. My PC one has surge protection. So tried with a new standard leadn and my PSU went pop.

Purchased an OCZ 700W Stealth Xtreme. Waited for it and plugged it in.
No power.
As mobo and CPU was only 9 months old, returned them for testing to another PC supplier (name rhyms with "carrier"). They said mobo was fine and returned it to me. With some addons I decided to buy.
Purchased from an electronic component store that sounds like "map bins", a PSU tester for £25. No voltage out from PSU. Returned PSU to supplier and now waiting for results.

Its a pain in the a**e as it has cost me £25 in postage and £25 in test eqipment not to mention any test fee on top.

But if you strip your mobo down to CPU and take off RAM, drives and even GPU, you are only left with 3 components. Mobo, CPU and PSU. The problem must be with one (or more) of those.

Logic dictates, when you eliminate the impossible, what ever is left, however improbable it might be, it must be the possible.

Hi again
I did some testing today and it came out with some interesting results. I tested 2 other computers and found that each time they came out with the same symptoms, they started with fans and lights but no POST or beeps, and the common factor each time was the OCZ modxstream power supply that I put into them each time.

My question is what other power supplies do people have and do they recommend them?

Thanks

I have had several Corsair PSU and not had any problems.
Antec seem to be getting good reveiws.

Is the OCZ under warranty ?
