MSI X79A-GD65 power-up issue.

I've purchased an MSI X79A-GD65 with an Intel Core i7 CPU bundle and everything is wonderful except I have a slight issue with powering it all on.

Sometimes (say 1 in 3 times) i will push my power button and the CPU fan will blow really hard, the POST LED will stay blank and the monitors will not come out of standby.

I have to power off via the PSU wait a few seconds and try again.

Is this a common problem? Is there something I should be doing in the BIOS to help with this?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced

Ross

It's not a wide scale problem with that board as far as i am aware what psu do you have as that may be causing some problems other then that i am sure our resident msi rep will be along shortly to help anyway he can :). I have that board being delivered tomorrow but will be another month before i assemble so sadly i cannot help in a practical way :(.

I think its my PSU.. i have a Corsair TX650 and ive noticed that if i unplugged one of my CPU Fans, it boots fine. Either im drawing too much power for it to handle (I highlt doubt that even though im running dual graphics cards and a dual fanned heatsync) or its broken.

I need to get my self a power meter and test...

Does the Corsair TX650 have issues?

Far as i am aware the 650 has no real issues but bear in mind for two graphics cards upwards of 700w is recommended now and for a little while i believe so you may be asking too much from the psu. Try taking out one of your gfx cards and see if it runs ok then, if it does you have your answer and it's time to buy a more powerful psu.

I have this exact same problem and probably have the same bundle as yourself. i7 3820, yeah?

I have the up to date BIOS.

Sometimes it doesn't even turn on unless I unplug the kettle lead from the back of the PSU and put it back in again after a few seconds!

When I first bought this bundle almost 2 months ago, I had a problem getting it started up. I called OCuk and they told me steps like reset CMOS (didn't work) etc. and that the boards are sometimes dodgy. Turns out all I needed to do was rearrange the RAM a bit and it worked fine after.

I think if we are experiencing the same problem with the same board then I highly doubt it's the PSU. Might just be the boards not liking something - Maybe it's the CPU fan as you say (I'm guessing you have 1 connected to the actual CPU fan connector and 1 connected to a regular SYS_fan like I do. How many times did you test it with one of the fans disconnected?

What graphics cards do you have? Check my sig, I have more than enough power for my spec so imo it's not our PSU's not giving enough power to the components.
