Decided that it would be a good idea to let my 5820k strectch its legs - a nice easy 4ghz.

Set this in the bios by altering the mutiplier to 40 , all cores mode + turn off turbo.
Left remainder to auto.

Re-boot into windows cpu-z and core temp show it running at 3.3 :(

Go back into bios which tells me that the 3.3 cpu is in fact running at 4.

Anyone tell me what is going on ? and what, if anything I am doing wrong?

Put the CPU under load (Prime 95 or similar). You probably don't have the CPU ratio fixed to 40 and speedstep is reducing the clock to save power.

Tried IBT - only for a few seconds - but it did not (according to cpu- z) go above 3.3:(

Will try again tomorrow and let it run till complete and see .

My experience with X99 is not proving enjoyable:(

I can as said dial in 4.00 and after saving - the bios and msi command centre say 4.00 BUT windows - core temp and cpu-z say 3.3 :(

Decided to have a go with msi's genie which clocked the cpu to 3.8 - no problems (min temp of 27/29c and max between 56 & 61c - currently running an old corsair h60 , pending instalation of full water).

Did notice that the genie fixes the speed at 3.8 and therefore speedstep must be turned off - I would have preferred to keep it on as long as it does not interfere with the overclock - is it this that is causing my problems when manually overclocking?

Anyone out there who can advise as to what to turn off in the msi gaming 7 bios to get a manual overclock to work ?

Got it running at 4.00ghz :)

Just adjusted the bios entries, slightly, for the boards clock to 3.8 and it booted and appears stable.

Only problem is that it would not work in wndows (i.e. cpu-z showed running at 3.3 even though the bios says 4.00 :unless I run 'fixed' cpu ratio mode -which automatically switches off both eist and turbo) . So , currently it is running 4.00ghz permanently . No problem as such , voltage is 1.1 and idle/load temp is nearly the same as 3.8.(running ibt - 10 runs - knocks off 12 secs - temps 30-32c idle & 61-67c load _not a problem I think.

If possible would like to enable Eist - anyone know how? Was the problem fixed in the most recent bios update ? Temps looking good ? Any comments appreciated.:)
