Hi everyone,

I decided to build a new PC at the end of December, due to the cooler being out of stock I had to wait until a bit before christmas to get going.

The issue I had with the first board is the EZ Debug lights flickering between CPU and Dram. No post. I tried 2 PSU's I am breadboarding have taken CMOS batteries out and everything else that has been suggested.

I rma'd the board and Overclockers sent me another one. Exact same issue. I sent my CPU, RAM and Mobo for testing to Overclockers and they said the same thing, faulty motherboard.

So yesterday with my brother(more experienced pc builder) as another set of eyes incase I was missing something we went ahead and tried again with a third new motherboard. Exact same issue.

This is the RAM I am using. As far as I am aware this is compatible, but the board doesn't appear on crucial's RAM chooser tool thing. But could this be a RAM issue? I can't believe the odds of me getting 3 boards in a row that are faulty.

I have actually ordered some more RAM to test the theory. Some Corsair Vengance stuff. I thought I would ask around before doing another RMA because I don't believe the solution lies in me getting another one of these motherboards sent to me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi digitalx thanks for replying,

yes it's the Mortar one. The compatibility table on the MSI isn't the most intuitive but I think it indicates this RAM was ok. But the chances of getting 3 boards that are broken? I'm struggling to think what else it could be. As mentioned I have ordered some different RAM so I will see tomorrow.

Otherwise I am absolutely out of ideas.

Hi, the CPU, motherboard and RAM were all RMA'd and tested with Overclockers and they returned the CPU and RAM as working along with the replacement mobo. The new RAM turns up tomorrow, so I will see what happens and give an update on my results.

UPDATE:

Just a PSA for anyone thinking of purchasing the Z170M, having this problem or whatever.

I have found the issue and fixed it! I purchased some different RAM (Corsair Vengeance) and was able to POST and successfully set my PC up. Once I was in I was able to flash the BIOS that had been revised twice for "memory compatibility".

Tried the original Crucial Ballistix stuff and bingo it worked!
