MSI Z170M Gaming- onboard displayport not working

Trying to setup a clean install on old Z170M gaming mobo but cannot get any display from the displayport onboard
I have tried a GTX1080 and it worked briefly, got into bios to change to IGU but now nothing after removing the GPU- I cant keep it in the machine and dont want to buy another card as this would only be for a media server to save me a couple of plugs sockets
Any ideas what I can try next?

Have you tried resetting the BIOS? My MSi Z170A board hates using the XMP profile and causes all sorts of problems with the integrated GPU due to the voltage instability (basically disconnecting/reconnecting on the display port).
