Hi guys

I recently installed the MSI Z77 MPower after replacing it with the Asrock extreme 4 mobo which i had before, am currently having problems with the RAM it wont boot if i place them in the correct slots for dual channel configurations but if i place them in the last two slots the PC boots up fine.

My Ram is the G Skill Ripjaw X series 1600mhz model number: F3-12800CL8-4GBXM.

Its driving me nuts two motherboards and nothing working, i just hope its not relating to my CPU or something like that.

Please...please guys really need your help with this, because without it running in dual channel configuration my first build feels incomplete due to this problem.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried running 1 stick at a time in the correct slots? try running Memtest on each stick.

worst case scenario could be you've bent some of the Cpu pins? Might be worth having a look, If that's the case your options are limited to hoping for an RMA or try and get your current socket fixed, or try fixing it yourself.

Hi

I tired doing what u suggested looking at if i had a bent cpu pin, what i found was nothing everything looked normal, the motherboard i got is brand new from amazon no one else as used it so i doubt a bent pin is the problem, but i did check though. I tried out testing the RAM modules individually into each slot and all i found out from there was the last two slots worked only, which is currently forcing me to run my system in single channel. There is something that bugs me though could my motherboard not like the type of RAM am using for this, if this is the case what RAM modules would work with this board any suggestions?

Thanks in adavance.

Hi Nickolp1974,

I think i have updated my BIOS its when i was using the live update 5 software it scans my pc to see if they are out of date software, it also scans any BIOS updates too. First thing i did was to update the BIOS and that didnt make a difference when i tried to re-configure them into dual channel.

Jus to let know i've posted this problem onto MSI forums so i'm going to wait until someone replies on there too.

This sounds like a warped motherboard or damaged CPU. Are you using a bolt through CPU cooler that could have been over tightened??? Try loosening and going again. The other option would be testing the CPU has dual channel capability's in another board.

Hi guys thx for the replies with regards to my motherboard, ok lets see from what i can tell my board isnt warped as in i double checked when i was installing it i made sure that it was straight. The cpu cooler am currently using is a basic intel stock cooler which only has push pins to install the cooler to the board. I know for a fact that its not due to bent pins in the cpu socket because this board is brand new. Also i had replies from MSI forums and people over there seem to say its due to my ram modules, in fact i'll quote what one person said.

"might be the RAM itself! G-Skill Ripjaws are very prone for being incomparable because they have been optimised for use on a specific Motherboard MAKE due to a contract deal with said manufacturer (neither of the board you tried are from that maker beginning with A...)! I would see if you can get some Corsair RAM as its a safer bet and should work as advertised whereas that ram you have has been oddly made and only works 100% on a single makers boards!"

So what am going to is reply back to them and see which ram manufacture they recommend for the board i'v got. i'll keep you guys updated on the situations.

Thanks again guys
