Hi
I have the Twin frz 3 oc edition and was wondering if this would Crossfire with the Twin Frz 2 oc? Not sure what the difference is apart from slightly lower clock speeds i.e. 810 vs 850

Cheers

You can Crossfire them subject to having a suitable motherboard and PSU.

It might be worthwhile trying to overclock the slower card to match the speed of the higher card but they will work if left at different speeds.

The only issue I can think of is the PCI E solts on the Rampage 2 i.e. the 1st 2 slots are close and I am wondering about the heat issue. My case is the Silverstone TJ O7 with a custom loop on the CPU, so is very cool. I can't use the 3rd slot as there is something in the way on the bottom of the case

If you've got 2 cards sitting right next to each other then the top card is going to get hotter as it's sucking in hot air from the back of the lower card.

The best you can do is to ease the cards as far apart as possible to get as bigger gap between them as you can and perhaps have a fan blowing cool air into the gap.

It might be worth trying the cards in one configuration and then swapping them arround to see which gives the best result.

Cheers Surveyor.

Do you think the cards will run too hot in sandwich mode? I know its hard to give a definitive answer, but I would appreciate the advice before buying another card. Otherwise to crossfire, I will need another board

Cheers

I have two 6950's very close together, and the top one runs 10-15 degrees hotter than the other in games, and occasionally reaches 80 degrees (admittedly, that's in eyefinity).

However, if you can bear the fan noise (I don't hear it over the game, and only notice when I end a session and hear just how loud the fans were), it's stable enough. If your case is cramped and has poor cooling, though, you might need to be careful.

That said, I do plan to get one of those adjustable fans to blow cool air into the gap to cool things down a bit more.
