Hi there, looking for some help from you people in the know.

I'm working on an older PC which has 4gb installed. The mobo is a DFI Infinity 975 X/G with the latest BIOS (12/10/2007)

MSInfo32.exe only reports 2048mb memory is installed but I have 4gb physically fitted in banks 1 + 3. Its currently set at 1.9v but I have tried it at 2.1v briefly as well to see if it solved the isssue.

The memory is new Corsair XMS2 2x2Gb PC6400.

The OS is Win XP Pro 32bit.

Any ideas on how I can get the 3.3Gb I'm expecting to get with this setup?

Thanks in advance.

Memory remapping is enabled, win xp still reports only 2048mb installed. Yes I'm aware of the graphics card memory sharing thing but even so that means I'm a few hundred mb short of what I should have and more importantly Win XP should still report the 3.3 or 4gb (dont remember which ) is installed.

Have you tested each stick individually?

Also, have you tried banks 2 and 4 (if the MB allows this)? As you may have a damaged DIMM socket.

If you can't run 2 + 4 then test each DIMM slot separately with a single stick.

well.. 3.3GB - 1GB = 2.3GB... So that's not really that far off.

No Frenchtart you are quite correct and as your advanced maths clearly points out, it should be 2.3Gb reported and not 2gb which therefore leaves a problem that needs to be resolved. It points to only one bank of sticks being recognised by software.

My mobo supports up to 8Gb and shows correctly 4gb in the intial post memory check.

@ Plec, thanks, will try that (I'm not sure why i haven't yet!)

Am I correct in saying I could use say banks 3+4 to get the 4gb to work at single channel? How much of a performance yet will this give?

Ok no joy with banks 2+4. I'm up for some suggestions of what to try next. I'm sure its a simple setting ive overlooked, but whether that be in the bios or Windows I have no idea...!

Does the full 4Gb of memory show up in the BIOS?

If it does - try setting all the timings and voltages manually. You could also try upping the NB voltage (MCH) up by a single increment.

Also, what does CPU-z report?

I've not used XP or 32 bit OS in years - but something about your problem rings a bell. I'll do a search later as i think i may have read a post in the past with a similar problem.

EDIT: Read above post 1st.

Additional: Was 'memory remap' enabled already - or did you set the option when i mentioned it?

If it was the latter, disable it save and exit - and let me know what amount of memory is now reported in XP.

After the above - try clearing the CMOS, or ideally update the BIOS to the latest release - and then reapplying all the settings.
