Guys if my chum sends me a file on msn, once i have it windows wont let me open it.
Gives some carp about the file being harmfull even though it is not.
I then cannot find the file in my docs.
I cannot recall how to disable this annoying feature.
Can you bods help?.

I can't remember either, a workaround is to save the file with a fake file extension and then rename it back once msn has downloaded it. :p

Thanks guys i found a patch to sort it.

:p

Can you give us a link to that patch?, I've lost countless ammounts of files because of that damned restrction.

i discovered that MS only deletes the file in question after you click ok on the offending dialog box. so if you go find it, copy it somewhere else, click ok and job done.

but the patch sounds easier :p

I've had this happen with MSN a while back on a friends comp. I recall that all there was to it was to go the file's Properties and click the "Unblock" button. On my computer however, "blocked" files just result in the OS asking whether I'm sure that I want to run it, but then I've never run executables on my comp that I got from MSN. Maybe it's just MSN downloaded executables that result in the total block... but again the "Unblock" button should remove even that.
