Is this an issue for anyone else? I have Windows live messenger running with only the main window open, no chat windows, task manager is showing the service running at 70% load on the CPU? Laptop has had a full scan with no threads both on my virus scanner and also malwarebytes and spybot.

It gets that bad I have to exit out of the app as it just makes my fan go crazy and of course the laptop feels like its been sat out in a heatwave.

Thanks

Windows 7 Ultimate, completely up to date (it seems to have started since the last few updates I have had from Windows Updates last week which also appears to have caused problems with Internet Explorer/Mouse pointer randomly freezing).

MSN version 2009 14.0.8089.726

If I restart MSN it seems to be ok for a while, but then after it sitting at idle all of a sudden it will just start loading the CPU with what ever its trying to process (when its not even being used).

Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200 @ 2.0GHz - 64bit OS, AVG Anti-Virus, IE8.

Probably wont go ahead with a lighter client as I dont belive this is the issue, iv never had this problem before and I have run MSN for years and years. I have a funny feeling it could be a possible recent OS update which had been messing up my laptop (see my other thread).

Anyway, I will see how it goes, might try a re-install and see if there is an updated version of MSN.

I'd get rid of IE before you do anything else...

I'm not suggesting it as a long term solution, just to rule it out as the problem here. It doesn't sound likely but if it's only in one program then it's definitely a possibility.

Why would IE be the problem with Windows Live Messenger client (unrelated to IE)?

Because Superewza hates anything which isnt opensource, free and is windows related.

Its most likely caused by the flash adverts there. I would reinstall it and also make sure your flash is upto date.

ditching MSN and installing Pidgin is the way forward, no more having to patch to get rid of cacky adverts, plus, it uses less ram and has a nicer interface

No, everybody hates IE. With good reason.

bledd. has the right idea but we can't tell you what to do, i still suggesting trying Pidgin to see if it is the client that's the problem.

Meh

no more having to patch to get rid of cacky adverts
Takes all of a minute to do, but agree they're cack!,

plus, it uses less ram and has a nicer interface
RAM not really an issue for me, and nicer interface? Nah. It's boring and plain. I like shiny things! :p

Each to their own though, of course! :)

Everybody does not hate IE. Generally it's those people with extreme hatred of anything made by MS or are living the past with the IE6/7 issues that hate IE.

And IE8 was a step in the right direction but it's still got nothing on pretty much any other browser.

Real men use irssi + bitlbee, anything else (except perhaps mIRC below 6.31) should be considered an inferior product and you should feel bad for using it.

Real men also use chromium or namoroka, especially IE is pretty much a pinnacle of failure.

Good thing I use Firefox and Chrome then, although unfortunatly I have to have IE installed as some of our internal systems have issues running on any other web browsers, saying that some of them have issues running on IE.

So has no one else been having this problem? I am now at the latest version of MSN, i really cba to re-install the OS just because of MSN.

Its making my laptop stupidily hot from the CPU load.

:(
