Every now and then I get this weird thing when trying to type a message in a regular chat window. I'll start typing, then it'll delete what I've typed and then only let me type one letter at a time. Each time I try and type the next letter it replaces the previous one. If I try to type really quickly I can get 2 or 3 letters before it deletes them back to just the last one. The whole time the one letter is highlighted..

I'm guessing I'm somehow accidentally pressing some key combo that's does something very funny.

So any ideas?

Happens for me too, usually after removing part of a message with delete (not backspace).

Haven't found a fix, just have to close and re-open the window.

Yup, i used to get that... As Justin has said, click about, highlight other windows and it normal reverts back to normal.

I got fed up with it and switched to Adium, which i much prefer, but i dont use a Webcam.

which is the best messenger to use? i followed the link on the osx beginners sticky in here and it seemed to give me 2 different messenger options and 2 different msn ones too?

I'd go for either Adium (if you like customisability) or MSN for simple MSN.

aMSN and Mercury MSN are buggy as hell but support webcam.

1) Which one tho?? there's all these...

Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0.3
Microsoft Messenger for Mac 5.1.1
MSN Messenger Version 4.0.1 for Mac
MSN Messenger for Mac version 2.5.1
MSN Messenger 3.5.1 for Macintosh OS X

2) do they all support webcam?
3) are any advert/banner free?
4) how come some say for 'mac' and the bottom one explicitly says 'osx'?

cheers

1) Get the latest one; 6.0.3
2) No.
3) Yes, well, 6.0.3 definitely is.
4) Just an error in the wording.

I've used Adium in the past, and I've always just gone back to the official MSN Messenger.

I think it's because I'm used to the simplicity, and I was always fiddling with the settings of Adium. Not saying that's a bad thing, but all my friends use MSN so I didn't need the extra fluff.

Would go back to it if they implement the video capabilities, though.

So do i want Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0.3 or MSN Messenger Version 4.0.1 for Mac?

Are these different apps like they are on Windows (windows messenger and msn messenger) or am i just getting confused because of the wording (all the links above are the same software but just different versions).

Cheers

You want 6.0.3.

Any other version is an older variant.
