hi guys, im sorry of this has been posted before but is it possible if someone could give me a few instructions on how to install msn messenger on my new macbook pro please.

thanks in advance
rich :)

FANTASTIC just installed it and im on my msn :) how do i sign out and choose a different messenger......lol im a complete newbie with macs so havnt the slightest clue about anything :)

To sign out in adium click File > Disconnect
in MSN it's network > sign out I think.

If you mean to actually quit the program right click on the dock icon and select quit (if you havn't enabled 2 finger tap to right click on your MBP its control + click).

Ummn, look around the bar at the top of the screen? Apple logo - File - Edit so on and so forth...

Spend an hour looking at everything, file, right click, everything.

I've been using macs since OS 7.6 11 years ago, when I was 6. I only yesterday learn't another thing about OS X.

We can't teach you everything, just look around, I never had anyone tell me what to do in OS X or Windows :)

you dont have to log out of msn to use another im service, you can run all of them at the same time

nope, have same thing on my Mac try and sign into Adium and it logs me out of Messenger.

Well of course it will if you try to log into your MSN with adium. What he means is, you could run one MSN with one AIM with one Skype with one Google talk...etc.!

open the .dmg and drag the app into the Applications folder... But you don't want to be using MSN messenger, use adium

If you use just MSN though then Adium's (well, technically, libpurple's) generally really good points don't make up for a lack of MSN-centric features :(

Well then... :)

I find the most annoying thing about admium is the lack of the MSN tag line things after a persons name. Does the msn messenger for mac have this?

Yea, AFAIK the MSN messenger for Mac is almost alike with Windows' Live except for the ability to game with chat partners and video chat...

Microsoft Messenger for Mac has everything Windows Live Messenger has, except for (off the top of my head) video / audio chats, games, remote assistance, sharing folders, handwriting, and pokes (thank god). The reason I use it over Adium is mainly because of personal messages and custom emoticons.

You can have both these in adium! Goto the advanced panel in preferences then to the MSN section!

Personal messages don't work mate, I've tried it. And the custom emoticons just send the text shortcut to people, they don't send the emoticon like the real client does.

The "problem" with Adium is that it's based on the same core library as GAIM (now called Pidgin), and so that the Adium developers can't add in any network specific features until the people that develop Pidgin do - which as the name (used to) suggest is too AIM-centric unfortunately.

I use Messenger:Mac simply because it does MSN better than Adium does, in IMO a nice and clean interface.
