Msn Messenger for Mac

They said it was due out with Microsoft Office 2008, but being a typical MS statement I can see that being pushed for a while

That is true - I was quite a firm MSN user due to taglines etc, now I have gone back to Adium to claim back some desktop real estate (Tabbed MSN windows and collapsable buddy lists for the win!) hopefully MSN will click onto the tabbed MSN thing - I know you can do it in MSN Live Plus on Windows, I have seen it!

Just going off on a slight tangent

Anyone know how you can choose your status BEFORE Mac Messenger automatically logs you in upon opening?

My girfriend who is currently on placement in Germany uses a MacBook and we tried video chat on aMSN last night because the Microsoft version doesn't support it. It worked but it was horrible compared to Skype. For OSX Skype has been the best program for video calls that we have found and we've tried many programs since September last year when she moved out there. We finally managed to get iChat working but it is not that easy to use because you need to play around with accounts and settings, it's just a mess.

Skype has it's benefits as well because it offers cheap calls and you can also send SMS from it which we use all the time considering mobile calls cost a bomb to another country (I can't see how routing a call between european countries costs so much when you are on the same network).

aMSN is just crap.

I use Mercury all the time, tabbed conversations, video is good - the only thing I find it sucks at is transfers, but I hardly use that anyway.

Also...

I've set up a messenger account using a gmail email

Can I import contacts from another messenger account into the gmail one

I know you can on WindowsMessenger, but don't see it on MacMessenger.

I've gone back to using Microsoft Messenger on Mac, seeing as I kept getting bounces on Adium and aMSN. Strange, I've started getting bounces on Pidgin on my PC, when Live Messenger is also fine. I think they've moved the goalposts again.

Solved my problem above thus:

Log in on PC messenger old acc, export contacts.
Log in on PC messenger old acc, import contacts.
Log in on MAC messenger new acc - all contacts present.
