msn messenger help

Hey all, need some help for a mate and his messenger live account. when he signs in be it a mobile phone, pc, laptop or sisters pc he is unable to receive a message from any of his contacts, the only way is, if he talks to them 1st then it will work as normal.

Any ideas on this problem

Hmm could be a anti-virus or anti-spyware stopping it as it is a pop-up of sort. Try disabling Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware/Firewall.

Failing that,

1. Uninstall MSN Messenger
2. Reboot
3. Re-install MSN Messenger (Current Version - Live! Messenger)

I'm suspecting actually it could be the firewall blocking a port maybe? If he opens the port it's fine, but if something external tries to open it, it is rejected.

Can he use the web based messenger?
