MSN Port Forwarding

When some friends send me files through msn messenger, speeds are really slow (slower than 56k). Is this because I haven't forwarded the msn ports (1863,5190,6891-6900,6901)? If I do, does it mean speed will be faster?

Thanks

Depends on their upload. ;)

256K upload = around 25kb/s
448 = around 40-50kb/s
etc etc.

That could be the reason for the slow transfer, it could also be because they haven't got the right ports open, or they might be doing other stuff taking up their upload.

Try forwarding the ports and see if it changes.

Both users have 448kbps upload and nothing running at background. I'll just try it.

What sort of download speed are you getting then?

It depends on the user I'm recieving from. Some people works as it should but others as little as 1kB a sec. A 4mb file will take well over 20mins.

This isn't really a problem as I just get user to uplaod to a filesharing site, but it would be nice just to send via msn.
