Often when playing nfs shift2, I get lagginess/framerate drops. I noticed yesterday that MSN Messenger seemed to be causing it. I minimised the game, opened task manager, and msnmsgr.exe was using about 20 to 24% cpu. While that's not a lot, the problem went away when I shut MSN down. Right now, there is zero cpu activity on it, not even any fluctuation, just zero. Version is 2009 build 14.0.8117.416. Don't know if there's a later version as I haven't checked, but does it seem odd that it should consume around a quarter cpu load and make my game laggy?

I've seen it use 100% cpu before, locking my laptop up.

Solution: Use a different MSN client (Trillian or Pidgin are good & free).

Noticed the same issue myself. Opening and closing the main contacts window seems to fix it, my guess is it's related to the flash banner ad at the bottom.

But I like the smileys on MSN :) Which is why I didn't bother with trillian or pidgin yet.

It's a good point about the flash banner ads, I'll try closing the contacts window next time.
