Hi

We have about 10 desktops running with a SBS 2003 server.

Why is it on some dekstops I can got to Start-->Run-->MSTSC, type the server name and get a remote desktop to it while on others when I type the server name and press enter is gives an error saying there is no terminal services server or something like that?

TIA

SBS cant act as a terminal server so is limited to remote administration only. It's limited to 2 sessions (I think, cant remember if that includes the console session) - so chances are you've reached the limit

I know for sure that no one else uses MSTSC yet on certain desktops I get the error

Open task manager on the server, check the users tab for existing sessions. If they havent been logged out properly they will still be open

Or you can use:

mstsc /console /Admin

This means you can log on as the console. This is useful for when people don't log out properly! (I forget if you need the admin bit, but I use that command at work and it works!)

could be remote desktop isn't enabled on certain boxes? Right click My Computer > Properties > Remote and enable it in there.

Use tsadmin to check whose logged into the boxes and end their sessions that way if necessary

Try the IP address of the server on MSTSC and see if that works, might be a DNS issue...
