Hi,

Just bought a new bike and I'm wanting to get a chain guide for it but it has oversized chainstay so its proving difficult. I also have triple chainrings at the front, does anyone know of an oversized chain guide for triple chainring?

you CAN get a triple ring chainguide,i know a guy that got one from the states. What do you mean by oversized chainstays? its general down to how low or high th chainstay is.

By the chainstay I mean this:

The bar the device holds on to.

Ah,i dont like those as chain devices. Your basically making the bike act as though it has a short chain. I prefer the standard BB mount type.

You got a banshee X in the end?

Well I decided to go ahead with the kore one. Fitted some spiral wrap to protect the chainstay instead of forking out ridiculous money for a bit of cloth!! Had to get some longer screws for the kore tensioner as the stock one's didn't allow me to fix it to my chainstay with it being oversize. Works a treat!

it tension's you chain making it less likely to come off over big bumps or drops, im after one of these too chain is a little slack on the scandal. tell us how the kore works out, also did no one recommend a BB mounted one for a triple chain ring? i cant find any

I'm in the middle of a big drivetrain repair/spend on my Enduro, and have decided to ditch the outer ring and switch to a 36-26-bash combo. Using this combination means I can drop down my rear mech to a medium cage and can shorten the chain somewhat, so won't have a need for a chain tensioner.

My logic is that my Enduro is my fun bike, and I never use the big ring on it anyway, so it's just wasting space.

The rear mech is still on order (XT Shadow '08), but when it arrives I'll fit everything and report back too.

You could get an E13 DRS with that setup and be pimp as ****!

I still dont like these chainstay mounted ones.....

That never let me down on that bike and hopefully wont on my bighit.

hi guys, sorry I didn't get back. I fitted the kore and I have since removed it after having it on for a good few trails. It was noisy and didn't work very well really. I think what I'll do is probably just get a downhill one eventually and remove some of the chainrings off my set.

You could get rid of all your problems for 20 quid or thereabouts - just ditch the outer ring, get a slightly bigger mid ring and buy a cheap bash guard. You can then shorten your chain and your slap issues should decrease a hell of a lot.

Jonny M - I ended up getting the Race Face bash guard as I've heard of the plastic/composite bash guards cracking on big impacts, I'd prefer mine just bending or denting as it'd be easier to fix.

I'm finding that the 26-34 just isn't low enough for the biggest hills given the rolling resistance on my big tyres and so on, so I'm considering a drop to either a 24 or a 22 granny ring. If I went for the 22 though, I'd have to get a road front mech for the tooth difference and I'm unsure whether I can get one with a low enough profile. 36 mid ring is perfect size though, I've never been into the top-most gear yet and I've hit nearly 40mph on the downs.

XT Shadow rear mech is excellent, the chain and mech are completely silent now as the mech doesn't hit the chainstay at all, and the chain is short enough to stay taut throughout. Shifting is really good too, I'm glad I went down that route instead of XTR.
