This is annoying me lately, i used to ride a lot of Motocross and my jumping skills were great, simply power up and leave the bike do the rest.

However 7-10 years later i'm now trying to get some decent air on a mtb and am 1) Failing 2) falling... Dont get me wrong i can do small table tops and longer jumps... But when it comes to short sharp jumps simply wipe me out.

So looking for some advice, i know how to preload and leave the bike come through and upwards.... But still just cant seem to hit the big air.

What do you think? Any good downhill riders on here?

I have no idea how to jump either. I can get air, but then I have no control and either nosedive because I think the front wheel is coming too high, or land heavy and flat... or land tail first and poo my pants (not literally).

Yeah seen it.... Still doesn't really explain amazingly well. I'm losing balance in mid air, back wheel kicks out and i go in a different direction.

Practise more.
Bike set up can also be a factor, from rebound on the rear, high speed comression of the shock (if you have that), handle bar height, fork rebound etc.

Mostly though, practise. The video can't tell you how to keep your balance :) It explains all the stuff that you need to know (the technique, the rest is up to you)

YEah good point. I have a decent jump park 10mins drive away, but going on my own is a nightmare as i worry about falling off and nobdy being around.
