Much difference between EAX 2.0 and 5.0?

I am looking to play sound from PC games on a Yamaha AV ackage 63 reciever by optical connection.

I am currently thinking about upgrading my motherboard to a Gigabyte P45 with Realtek ALC889a which supports DD Live and DTS. It supports EAX 1.0 and 2.0 however some sound cards support EAX 5.0, is there much difference?

Thanks.

Yep, that'd be best. Creative = not so good anymore imo, take a look at Auzentech, or the basic ASUS Xonar on a budget.
Also the ASUS Xonar emulates EAX 5 in software, but if you have a half decent CPU then it won't matter. :)

EDIT: Linkz below

Xonar (basic version, but still v.good)

Do they have optical connection? I'm new to this!

Cheers.

It has optical but it's an adaptor that shares the line/mic-in. Creative did the same on some of their X-Fi's, awful decision because it means no S/PDIF + Mic.

Do you have a picture of the adapter? Will adapter be included with the cheaper Xonar as that is about my budget.

Thanks.
