Ok don't laugh, but im currently running:

amd 64 3200
ECS nforce 4 a939 mobo
ati radeon x1650 128mb Pci-e
audigy 2 zs
1gb crucial DDR400
80gb MAxtor HD
850w Powercool Extreme SLI ready PSU (Brand new)
Ancient Aspire case ( its served it cause but the LED's on the door are broke, 1 front USB ports bent and buckled, 2 fans have lost their LED's and it's as noisey as hell)

Ive fried 2 psu's (one actually sparked then went with a audiable bang... but it didnt kill anything else in my pc... luck i guess!) and 1 gfx card on this rig.
None of this through overlcocking (something i dont do.... yet lol)

Anyway im planning my upgrade in 2 phases:

Phase 1
Mobo, cpu with 3rd party fan, mem and HD

Then using my existing gfx card, soundcard, case, PSU( which is new anyway), to shore up a the rig until the following month when i can splash out on the rest.

Phase 2
Case, soundcard, gfx card

Heres my build last for all components, please give feedback and suggestions as and when you see fit.
I will be using my powercool extreme 850w PSU since its Brand new and capable of what I need

Build cost is aimed at around £950

I have pondered going for a budget I7 rig but the cost is still higher than this proposed build.

Also FYI I play a fair few Online games eg:
Company of Heroes +OP+TOV
Project Reality
L4D
Entropia Universe

I also do a fair amount of video editing in Premiere Pro cs3 (which is hell on my current rig), Alongside using my pc for dvd's etc.

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

ppl on here will probably recomend the i7 if you gonna be spending that much,

and i would also get the case first cos if you put all that in a small case it gonna set fire lol

I have a monster of a case at the moment (BIG) with 3 120mm case fans and ample venting, it shifts enough air just the case was cheap and cosmetic things like the led's not working, USB port bodged.

i want to get a rig running even at half build status in june so when I get paid next in july i can splash out again.

My ambient temp in my case atm is 17 Degrees C
My x1650 while not the best card in the world by far never goes over 60 Degrees C on full load on everything high in a game
Unsure about CPU temp

If your going to spend that much on a Motherboard and cpu then I would look at the I7.

Question being thought would a Budget I7 Rig really benefit me more for what i use my PC for compared to a core 2 9550 rig

In 12-18months time ill Upgrade again as i need to stop becoming WAY behind like I did with my current rig.
By that time I7 will be cheaper and ill prob get more benefit out of it later down the line than I would now

lol i wouldnt have guessed lol....

For what I use my PC for EG not Super high end games and Mild Video editing wouldnt a I7 be killing and ant with an expensive Nuke?

Re my earlier posts that ill be building this in 2 stages.

Does anyone see any problems eg compatability with this temporary rig until I afford the rest of the new rig.

Also ill be running Win7
