My in laws have dropped their computer round as it was broken for me to fix which i have but it runs very slowly which isn't surprising as it based on a 1.7ghz Celeron and 256mb of ram. I've increased the RAM to 512mb from stuff i have left over but was thinking of buying a P4 2Ghz (northwood) as i can get one for about £5. But wondered if they would i see much increase in performance going from a the Celeron to the P4? They use the machine for the internet and looking at photos.
 
The motherboards got an SIS650 chipset which is limited to 400FSB which is a shame as if i remember correctly the P4 really liked a fast front side bus.
 
Got the P4 and it seems to have made the system a bit more responsive and it certainly improved the Super Pi Score, it's gone from 2 minutess 55 seconds to 1 minute 37 seconds.
