Much point upgrading?

right, i currently don't have the monies now, but is there much point upgrading my qx960 to an i7 920 or something, because i may get a 775 ddr3 motherboard somewhere, eg a asus p5q3 deluxe with built in wifi n, and 8gb of ddr3 1333/1600

was thinking this because the i7's a new CPU (mine is 2nd hand), its got L3 cache and hyper threading, and a triple channel memory controller.

but mine has 12mb L2 cache, and the god like unlocked multiplier, but the 775 socket is a bit old tech.

a bit of a dilemma here

I'd just say no, spend some time oc'ing your Qx and find its limits, you dont need to spend money to get better performance, 775 is old tech, but solid tech, until 2011 sandy bridge hits past summer-autumn (2011) im not going to advocate anyone with a high end 775 pc upgrade, your just not really in need of the extra performance , you've just got the itch to buy

A cpu with a unlocked multiplier and it's not clocked!! Ban tbh.


Seriously though, get it clocked and set it free.

Er- I mean yes sell your current set up to me, I think it's probably worth..hmm... 50 squid- and that's being generous! I have 10 now and I'll give you the other 40 next year..

I'm in a similar situation. Ive overclocked my q6600 to 3.6 and going to wait till sandy bridge to upgrade.
