Is there much improvement between the old 975x and the newer chipsets?

Currently have the asus p5wdg2 ws pro board with a dual core 6600 at 3.75ghz. Have done a few searches and seen that a bios update can get this board compatible with 45nm and 1333fsb chips. Was tempted to get a wolfdale e8200 (6mb l2) but is that much improvement over what I have?

the newer chipsets will run higher fsb but are slower clock per clock.
The E8200 only has an 8 multi which means that it needs to run 469fsb to match your existing 3.75GHz.
I don't know what you mainly use your PC for but I doubt that you would see a big jump in overall performance (could be wrong of course).
