Just running a free scan of EaseUS, it can see all the files but will only recover 2gig(of a 500gig drive) without paying obviously. Do i need to suck it up and pay for software or is there another way to recover the files?

Thanks folks.

If its any consolation I deleted a drive with 2200 movies on a few months back :l

Damn the pain! On a positive note i found a program called TestDisk, absolutely stonking for freeware, recovered everything, wiped drive and put everything back. It said it could rebuild the partition but i didnt want to risk it messing up and losing everything, but i reckon it would do the job nicely! That will teach me to forget to unplug one of my drives and just go deleting partitions without thinking before windows install

By now you should have already learned to have only drive you intend to install Windows on connected to make sure also boot data is installed on correct drive.

Never done that, ever, and never had a problem, surely if you know the partitions you're installing to it wont be an issue, Windows has never ever randomly plonked boot data on the wrong drive for me, always surprises me when people say they remove other drives but if it does happen fair enough!.

I always remove other drives when i install windows but this time one drive slipped my mind(I have four + M2) When drives are the same size its easy to just go in to auto and delete stuff which is what i did, thankfully i didnt lose anything this time!
