Hey,
I ahve never set up a multi booting computer before so have the following question to ask:

I have a spare computer which I would like to multiboot XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

The system already has xp installed. If I shrink the current partition and create two other partitions, one each for 7 and ubuntu, how can I get the multiboot working?

I didn't realise Windows 7 was available yet. Once you install each OS on each partition at the boot screen before the windows splash screen you will be given an option to boot from the list of OS afaik.

I would say the easiest way would be to let ubuntu handle the boot options (this is personal pref.) The way I generally do it is to install windows then let the Ubuntu installation process compress the partition/hdd containing windows. In your case I would use gparted or other to shrink the XP install to 1/3 of HDD size then install windows 7 on the 2/3 partition. Then install ubuntu and allow it to shrink the windows 7 partition to 50%. Giving an even split for all installs. Ubuntu should detect the other installs automatically, not sure on windows 7 thou but I can't see why not, and give the options to boot each @ start-up.
hope that helps
