Has anyone on here got more than 1 car? I'm looking at a cheap little corsa to run about to and from work in during the week then a weekend toy, haven't quite decided yet, but something big, and powerful... My problem is, I will soon have 6 years NCB, but cannot use 6 years per car, which leaves me with...

1: Insure 6 years ncb on cheap car - expensive insurance on a car that is only going to get used at weekends, very occasionally.

2: Insure no ncb on cheap car which will bump up by a few hundred quid - cheap-ish insurance on bigger car

Multi-car quote gave me £2500 for both cars, i'm 22 (soon to be 23) and currently 5 years NCB.

Was cheaper to insure both cars privately, but it would surely get traced if I insured them through different companies..

I wanted to get a powerful daily to do everything in, but it's too expensive to run every single day, so nice eco box for work and juice drinker for weekends :P

Your thoughts?

Admiral multicar is perfect for this, i have several cars insured through them and it is a very neat and nice way to do it.

Just buy separate insurance, always worked out cheaper for me and you don't have the hassle of forking out for two lots of insurance in one go.

Just put you NCB on which ever makes it cheaper overall.

Multi car for me has worked out just as cheap to insure one of my cars. So don't know how you got £2500. Did you actually call them?

No I'm only doing online quotes at the moment as I haven't actually come round or buying or selling any cars yet...

I could technically put 3 years on each car, which would lower a bit but not by much, hence why:- Do I do it all on the small car keeping it relatively low anyway and fork out loads for a car i'm driving every now and again, or have the daily slightly higher and the bigger car not as high..

Mate of mine text me last night saying a friend of his winged his way into having 6 years no claims going from 1 car, to 6 years on 2 cars, as he "could never drive them both at the same time" apparently it worked :P

Not sure you can split NCD? Never heard of that before.

Try phoning rather than online quotes. Many companies will "mirror" your NCD from one car onto another. This sounds like what your "mate" has. Just ask for it.

If that doesn't work, then you are obviously best keeping the NCD on the bigger, more powerful car. That'll be the cheapest way to do it. But remember to mention, when quoting on the second car, that you have 5-6 years on another car. At least it shows you've not had an accident and that's why your starting with nothing, or that you have been driving continuously.

Multi-car policies may or may not be cheaper for you though. You are still quite young, so that'll go against you where older gentlemen like myself can get cheaper quotes (like £300 on a 911 turbo, lol). But the places that do multi-car may not be the best for you.

Many places that don't do multi-car may give you a good discount on the second car though. But ALWAYS best to call them.

And go here : www.saynoto0870.com as many companies have freephone numbers, or cheaper landline numbers that they don't advertise.

Some companies will mirror NCD when you take out policies for two or more cars, so it usually isn't that expensive. No idea how your online quote came to £2500! What were you insuring?!

I'm with Admiral. I pay £450 a year for an evo and a pug 106.
I insured mine separate for a year then moved to multicar.
If going separate then play Admiral against Elephant as they're the same company and will match quotes.

I've read a lot of bad things about admiral multicar - i.e. It costs more then insuring 2 cars separately

I was a customer for years with admiral doing the 10 month thing

The worry with multicar for me is that one crash screws you over on both your cars - in terms of lost NCB.

No as the NCDs are separate.

My Cupra cost me this year £480 on its own with just me. My misses who is still learning and has a Fabia and we put both cars on a Multicar. For me and her on the Fabia plus my Cupra with only me on it came to £662 for a year.

Makes it worth doing if you ask me.

It matters not. One of the first questions they ask you when quoting for insurance is if you've had any accidents in the past 5 years. It doesn't matter how many years no claims you've got when you answer "yes" to that one.

I have 2 cars on different policies.

It was cheaper for me to do it separately. There was no issue for one insurance company to mirror the NCD from the other policy :)

When I got a second car the company were prepared to take the ncd from my first Car into account. I went with that rather than a multi car policy because it was cheaper, the premiums are due at different times and I'm now accruing separate ncd's.

What was I insuring? Well... a Corsa 1.3 CDTi as a daily and an MG ZT 260 as a toy... :D

I've been insuring my cars with Admiral using this method for the past couple of years.. Not bad, however they are now quoting me silly prices to stay on the 10 month policy, i'm paying £700 annual premium for a 2012 Astra SRi 2.0 CDTi, co-op for my renewal (end of June) are quoting me £335 a year... Easy decision ;)
