I'm after a card reader (mainly for SD but also others if need be).

I came across the Icybox Card Reader 3.5" on OCUK today.

Anyone seen/used one of these before?

I've been after something like this for ages!! I have a 2.5" one (addapted into a 3.5" bay) but it's rubbish (I got it for about £6-7) and doesn't function properly.

I've had freinds with others that also don't work properly - we've come to the conclusion there are NONE that work well -_-

Is this one reliable? Are there any other good options out there I could look at?

Cheers!
Howie.

I've never had an issue with any card reader, they all do exactly what is expected, read cards.

Even generic no-brand, el-cheapo from the computer fair jobbies work absolutely fine in every scenario I've ever needed one.

just buy a cheap on that plugs in a spare usb.

thats all you will need.

mine cost me £3 a few years ago now and works fine.

Believe it or not, a £3 card reader will do the exact same job as a £150 reader.
They are really just USB adapters and hubs, don't pay any attention to the super fast transfer rates either, they are the theoretical rates of the device in order to sell the product, when in reality they can only transfer as fast as USB specifications.

I just use an SD reader i bought from the pound shop lol. Does the job, turns the SD card into a usb stick.

Havent tried any SD cards bigger than 8gigs tho.

I was looking for card readers under Flash Memory -> Card readers and there are a few there.

Is there some logical reason why the Icybox card readers are hiding under Internal Hard Drives -> Caddies & Accessories?

Or indeed the card in question. Different cards have vastly different speeds.
As do the readers. I have 3 kicking about and with the same card (Sandisk Extreme):

The old Sandisk one does ~8-9MB/s
The one in my Dell 2405 does ~10-11MB/s
The posh Lexar UDMA one does ~25MB/s

Wow, my freinds and I must just have bad luck with ours then :S They either don't seem to perform well speedwise or other probs like: they don't detenct cards properly, they can't read, they can't write, they corrupt the card etc etc - all problems we've had (not all at once though :P )

Okies, looks like I'll just try another one and pray lol. Thanks peeps :)
