Evening all,
I've recently picked up a dell R410 with a single X5550. I currently use an Athlon FX 6100 as my VM host and with all the VMs running I use no more than 10% of the 6 cores. Now I was wondering whether dropping to either a single 40w xeon L series in the 5600 range or using two of them to give me 8 cores and 16 threads for less TDP than the FX 6100 (95W).
Firstly, would I notice much difference between an L5630 and an FX 6100? Secondly, if I did install two L5630 chips, would I need identical RAM configurations to make it work?
I've not got any experience of these chips or server setups so after any advice.
Cheers,
Chris
