multi-function printer/scanner/fax.

some of our users want to consolidate their existing printers, scanners, and fax's into multi-function devices. i am concerned about this from a security perspective because these devices would not only be connected to our private data network, but also the public telephone network. whats your take on this? do you have these types of devices on your networks? are they connected to telephone lines as well as your private data network? surely these devices arent designed with security in mind, and should one be comprimised then it's an entry point into the network.
 
We've got several MFD LaserJets (eg the 3380) out with customers and being hacked via the fax port is something nobody here has ever thought of.

I know it's early but how is somebody going to comprise a MFD via the fax modem and then manage to drill through the device onto a LAN? :confused:
