Multi lingual site

I currently have a website that is database driven and I want to create a multi lingual site. What is the best way of doing this? Will I have to duplicate the information in the database for each language?

I would prefer not to use an automated service like the translation feature of google as it isn't grammatically correct.

Yep; you'll have to have the content in each language you want on the site. As you said, automated translation won't work, so that doesn't leave much choice

For my multi-lingual stuff I use GNU Gettext and the Gettext PHP extension. It's made it SO easy to do.
