Howdy All

Me and my better half are looking to get a minecraft server from Multiplay and we are looking for advice on this. The obvious question is, how good are there servers? We are looking to get one because if she wants to play without me or vice versa, the level is on the server and not on one of our computers.

So yea, thoughts on this? Any general advice?

I'd recommend joining the OcUK server but failing that could you not just run your server on one of your local machines anyhow? If it's on yours, for example, she could just start yours up if you're not using it (assuming you live together).

For a few months we wont be living together. If this was the case, I wouldnt be looking to purchase one. I have another friend who may or may not be interested in joining either.

I would look at the OcUK one, but I kind of want something for me and my missus to have as our own.

Understandable. I'd probably want the same in your position.

I'd still recommend running it on a home PC though. The increased electricity costs for running your pc 24/7 would still be nothing compared to the monthly costs of server rental.

I will look into this but I am doubtful. I only have the two machines in my sig and the house I am moving into after uni has no other computers.

Multiplay are currently doing 50% off there minecraft servers for the first 3 months of purchase for a limited time. £9 for three months isnt bad, is it? Thats considering I used to pay that per month for WoW which I no longer play.

Yeah..that's not too bad, all in all. Probably worth it for the reduced hassle.

I assume these days multiplay has decent Bukkit support/etc?

(also, your 2nd machine would be okay for a 3 player server)

I am trying to connect to there test servers, but they all say Disconnected by Server, Outdated Server...any ideas? It seems from a fast google that the servers are not running the same version as me...would that mean that if I bought a server from them, I would have to roll back my version?

Assuming they're running Bukkit they'll probably not have updated to the latest MC - try reverting your MC version to 1.5_02

Been looking at downgrading my minecraft, and people are on about getting whitelisted for doing this. Found a video on youtube about it, made yesterday actually, and he claims he now cannot play minecraft. This all seems to much right now to get working. :(

The OcUK MC thread on the first page of this forum has links to the files you need.

Normally it isn't an issue but shortly after each update there's usually a lag with server mods.

Makes sense. I will check out the links tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.

Right, so I waited a few days for the multiplay servers to be updated to 1.6.5 before I bought one. I have been trying to get onto their test servers to see if they work etc. Obviously today 1.6.6 came out, so I am having to wait again now.

Does anyone know how long they generally take to change them over? It seems like they didnt actually change to 1.6.5 as it never seemed to connect for me. This is kind of putting me off buying from them. What is more annoying is that there IRC chat help has a message saying they are rolling out 1.6.6 to there servers as fast as they can, but they said that about 1.6.5 and 1.6.4 if I remember correctly...
