I got a steam deck and haven't really been into pc games (switch owner). I have 2 boys under 10 and want to play some games with them. Are there some good family oriented games. No cod or similar games.

Edit: Open to 2 player games as well.

I enjoyed Gauntlet, but the people I played with didn't unfortunately. You've made me think of another game though

Forced: Slightly Better Edition
(yep, that's what it's called)
Edit: says 16+ :(
Shall check it out, I loved the old gauntlet classic on PlayStation (I think)
Guessing forced is on steam

I've played the following with my son aged 6-8:

  • Lego games (really good, especially those with a lot of freeroam like Marvel Superheroes 2, DC Villains etc)
  • It Takes Two (excellent imaginative environments and promotes puzzle-solving, working as a team). I think this is PEGI 12 but there wasn't really anything I was unhappy by 8yo seeing/hearing except I think 'urinate off' was said at one point and without spoiling there's a section where you have be deliberately cruel that could be a bit emotional. If your kids are young/sensitive it might be a section you'd want to play through by yourself and then continue from the next checkpoint.
  • Trine series is generally good, HOWEVER it has a few frustrating sections, especially if your kids lack patience. You can kind of find yourself getting stuck for a bit in places and keep dying
  • Overcooked 2
  • Moving Out
  • Unravel
  • Sports games like FIFA
  • Mario Kart (appreciating this is PC Games but you mentioned you own a Switch)

Monaco: What's yours is mine is a bank robber caper and a good laugh!
Worms Armageddon available on Good Old Games (GOG) is great fun.
Bomberman clones were good fun. Personally, I like the 2D editions such as those on the SNES.
As a curveball - really as an educational tool. Kerbal Space Program, not so much a co-op but one to work together to build Lego style, spaceship/plane. Undeniably, it does take some to get to grips, but once you get the basic concept to build a rocket and testing it becomes addictive!
