Well i was speaking to our webteam and ive been wanting them to do this for a while but they tell me they cant do it.

Basically i want to search 7 different online catalogues at the same time. So you would enter the search criteria into only one and it would automatically search other catalogues that is specified. (e.g. Worldcat, British Library etc)

Is there software or a script that can be run that does this?

thanks

Do you mean you'd go to worldcat.org, for example, enter your criteria there, and it would come up with results from all catalogues? If so, I'm afraid it can't be done, at least without some very complicated and heavy-handed traffic interception :p

What you could do, though, is to create your own meta-search-engine which would aggregate the results from the others. So you put your criteria in and it goes off and queries the other catalogues, fetches the results, combines them, and then displays them.

Yes this is it exactly what i'm after :) How hard can it be? :D Is there software which can do this? Or would it need to be designed from the ground up.
