Multiple First Class Stamps

Heya, just need a quick questions answering, please.

If you have a large letter, can you put multiple small first class stamps on the letter instead of using LARGE letter stamps?

Yes, as it is over the value required.

I think the value for LARGE is 42p though, so you are spending more than you need by a few pence if i'm correct.

For a large letter under 100g it is 48p which is the same as two second class stamps so I use those

I think you can. You just need to make sure that the number of the first class stamps you have on the letter means that the total value of the stamps matches or exceeds the required postage for the letter.
