Multiple monitors and app minimize/maximize question

Hi all,

I have 3 monitors at home (for work purpose) but when I don't do heavy work I only use 2 of them, sometimes even 1.
When I sometimes start an application it launches on a monitor which is not turned on and I have to switch it on, move the app on my main monitor and then turn off the other monitor to preserve energy.
I have been looking for a way to maybe right click on the app icon down in the task bar and tell it to open/move on the monitor which is currently on.
There was a way to move the app window currently outside of the view by using some short cuts but when I tried it last time it was way too complicated and tedious.

Is there a 3rd party software which does a job similar to what I described?

There used to be a trial of ultramon you could use, to test it works for you before buying. (it wasn't that expensive anyway). It also has a few nice features like saving icon states and mutliple task bars.

I too found myself doing exactly as you do. I found myself using my extra monitors less and less,so was switching them off SO much so I rarely have them on anymore and I fire up ultramon when I need it rather than on startup.

The "trick" is to disable the extra monitors in windows before you switch them off. Other wise they are still enabled, just not visible and you get the behavior your observing.

In ultramon you choose "disable secondary" or something like that (from the primary task bar) and poof like magic all your windows and icons apear on the main desktop.

You can also setup shortcut properties to setup specific ultramon configs. For example only run game X on monitor Y and switch off the other 2 for you.

thanks for the useful tips mate. I like that last sentence a lot since I do game on a regular basis.
But I think I actually use my monitors more than you and disabling them (I don't even know how is that done, is it through "Screen Resolution" when you right-click?) will prove much more time consuming than simply turning on the monitor, moving the open app to the main monitor and turning the other off again.
I remember using Ultramon for a while some 2-3 years ago, but experienced some minor bugs which annoyed me then (maybe now is much more polished).

Maybe I should submit a request to Microsoft...if they even accept such things :)
