ok, so upgraded a friends machine to a Z77 motheboard and 3770K cpu. they use it mainly for fsx and have the game running on a 26" screen and then desktop with chat program etc on a 20" screen. they have a GTX480, so was wondering, so the game make the most of the 480, is it possible to run 1 screen off that and the other (non game) screen off the HD4000 built into the cpu? would this improve game performance (if its possible)

Best game performance is when you use one monitor. Anything else takes CPUs/GPUs time, but from what I've read, LucidVirtu in Z77 should have 3% impact over 60FPS.. I've never seen FSX over 60 FPS, so I bet CPU will cope better. Test it :)

but in theory if i plug the 26" into the 480 and set as primary, then plug the 20" into the onboard vga, then the 26" should run off the 480 and the 20" off the HD4000?

well i tested with heaven. with just the 26" it got 44.9FPS (everything maxed), with both plugged into GTX480 it got 44.3FPS, and with 26" in GTX480 and 20" in onboard i got 44.7FPS so no real difference.

Yes, I've been a multi-monitor user for ages. Running a second or third monitor for just windows use while running a game adds no appreciable load on any decent modern graphic card.
