Multiple MX records - 2 email services, one domain?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this really, but couldn't really see another suitable.

I currently have let's say [email protected] on Google Apps, I also provide email for my parents & brother as the domain is my surname.

I would like to move my own one to 365 so I can benefit from Office, the 1TB OneDrive and all the other Exchange stuff.

Can I do this (for example):
MX Priority 0 - mx.office365.com
MX Priority 10 - mx.gmail.com

Then, move my account to 365 and leave the others on Gmail.

My only worry is I'd get bouncing issues if, for example, my brother's mail tries to go to 365, or my mail tries to go to Gmail?

Thanks.

If this isn't possible, is there maybe a cheap MX routing service (one of those spam filtering retention ones) I could use? So I point my domain at that, then that would let me point email accounts to separate services?

Thanks

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no. That is not what MX priority is for.

You can configure Google Apps to pass messages to unknown recipients on to another mail server, so do that. I think you can do the same in Office 365.

I realise it's for backup/failover etc etc, but just thought I'd ask the question in case it could work like that... never tried :)

When you say I can configure Google Apps to pass the messages to another server, do you just mean a forwarder, or can I somehow specify 365 on my Gmail account.

You could setup a sub domain such as [email protected] and use different mx records to the root.

True, that'd work, but wanted to avoid sending out as something different.

This is what you want - Mail Service Forwarding from DNSMadeEasy:
http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/mail-services/

Been using them for years and they are pretty good (for the very reasonable price).

Basically you setup as many addresses as you want (which can include lists), so e.g.:

Bob -> [email protected]
Pete -> [email protected]
Sarah -> [email protected]
family -> bob,pete,sarah

so an email to [email protected] would go to [email protected], and an email to [email protected] would go to the respective bob pete and sarahs.

Thanks both. I think at least one of those will do the trick :)
