Does anyone know if there a known problem with plugging in a standard monitor and a HDMI TV output through the same graphics card?

About 6 months ago I dicided I wanted to use my TV as a secondary monitor to watch my TV programs and films on. I noticed I had one of those HDMI dongles that go into the back of my graphics card so thought. "cool, ill just buy a HDMI cable and plug it in directly...

The cable arrived and I plugged it in. Its been absolutly fine for about 6 months and then all of a sudden afew days ago my montior decided to start playing up.

Basically it vareys in what i does, sometime it will show the boot up screen but go all black with white verticle lines on the desktop part. Others it will just show a black screen with white verticle lines from pressing the power button...Sometimes (such as now) it will just work after re-powering up the monitor.

If I try unplugging the HDTV it doesnt have any effect. Ive tried re-installing the graphics card drviers with no luck. I would say I have a dodgey monitor but when its working, its fine.

Ive looked around the internet and ill i can find is something to do iwth the montior and TV having incomplatible resulutions and something to do with the NVidia drivers jsut being gay. Ive tried lowering the resultions but doesnt have a lasting effect. It all seems to work and stop working very randomly.

Please help :(

280 GTX
22" Monitor (connected via DVI)
32" HDTV (connected via HDMI)

So is the problem still there when you unplug the tv? Have you tried a different cable? It looks like the monitor is going out...

May I ask you a few questions to clear a few things up?:

Has the HDTV had any problems with out HDMI sources like games consoles or DVD/Blu Ray players?

Also, have you got the graphics card drivers set to "Dualview" and a recent version on the Nvidia display drivers installed (I believe 197.45 is the most recent WHQL release)?

Throughout all of this has the DVI connected Monitor been OK and has it experienced problems displaying stuff from the graphics card?

What is the make/model of the TV and does it have a "Game Mode"?

Which monitor is plugged into the DVI port of the graphics card closest to the motherboard?

Until afew days ago both the displays have been working absolutly fine together being plugging into the same graphics card. I had them set up as an extended desktop so I could drag a video over to my TV, this was working fine also.

A low budget TV called a Vistron 32" Freeview. It doesnt have a game mode. The monitor is an OcUK Value L2442WD-VA 24".

Ive tried it both ways but at the moment the port closet to the motherboard is empty and the monitor is plugged in the port towards the top of the graphics card.

Out of curiosity is there a "main" port in the graphics card for the primary display unit?
