Multiple Screens Issue

Hi guys,

Recently grabbed a new TV and have been having a bit of trouble with it.

I usually run a single 27" through DVI. Occasionally I would have another DVI screen, and sometimes my old TV via HDMI. These screens were hot swappable, I could literally plug em in they would pop up, and unplug em and they would go. They would be removed from windows displays / screen reslution windows immediately upon unplugigng.

Now I got a new Sony Bravia KDL 42W653A. I have the main 27" via DVI only. When I plug this Sony in via HDMI nothing happens until I restart my PC. Then it pops up and works as expected. However if I removed the HDMI cable the monitor is still being recognized as connected by Windows. It's not until I reset a second time does Windows recognize the screen is gone.

So the problem with this is that I have to restart everytime I want to plug/unplug the screen. It's annoying as my other monitors have all be hot swappable plug n play. Is this a result of HDCP? If not I have no idea what is going on!

Things I've tried:

Reinstalling Drivers
Uninstalling Monitors via Device Manager (weird thing is, if I unplug the sony then try to uninstall it via device manager each scan for hardware changes finds it again)
Deleting all custom color profiles

In Windows Display Properties you can click "Detect" which will detect new (and remove old) displays. Does this get around the restart issue at all?

Exactly which kind of DVI cable are you using? (Check the Wiki site to see the differences in DVI connections)
