Multiple Time Machine backups..

I have a FW 1TB drive that I'm using for TM backups. It's got backups, roughly every week, going back to the first day of Leopard.

Has anyone used TM with another drive purely for a secondary backup one a month or quarter? This would only need be a backup of the current laptop drive for example but I'm just wondering if it will confuse TM?

You should be absolutely fine with that because you'll select a different backup drive which will have nothing on it.

Although if you're going for an extra backup monthly or quarterly, I'd use SuperDuper! rather than Time Machine. That way you get a complete bootable backup.

Yep. Duplicate the Mac's drive or the Time machine, either would work. I've been considering doing it and giving it to my sister or something in case the house burns down or something else catastrophic happens.
